9 important lessons I have learnt in life!

They say that life is the best teacher! Life has and will always teach us important lessons about almost everything. I have put together a list of 9 best lessons I learned from my life so far…

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life: it goes on.”

-Robert Frost

Are you someone who loves to learn new lessons in life? If you are, that would mean you are the curious type. I’m also one of those types and every lesson I have learned so far in life, I owe it to the ever curious mind!

Curiousity is a good thing, unless you are a cat! Jokes apart, curiousity makes your mind question things and find answers to those questions. When you do find the answer, you learn and from that learning a change takes place. This change will then help you to grow as a person to new dimensions.

I have learned many lessons in my journey so far in life. Most of these lessons I learned from my own mistakes and I’m not ashamed of any of them. Some I have also learned from bitter experiences of life and a few others from observation.

I have put together the list of 9 best lessons in an effort to help me not just remember but also implement them in life. Hopefully, the list will be of benefit to some of you who are reading this as well.

Life lessons

9 important lessons I have learnt in life

Here are the 9 best lessons I have learned so far-

1. What you think, you become!

Life, lessons

Think happy thoughts!

Buddha once said, ‘we are shaped by our thoughts; we become what we think.‘ It is true, our thoughts are very powerful. Our thoughts become energy and the more positive our thoughts are, we may attract more positive energy.

If you observe carefully, you can see reflection of one’s thoughts in his/her actions. Thoughts and actions are directly related. So, choose your thoughts wisely and be aware of each thought that crosses your mind. Sooner or later those same thoughts may transform your whole life.

2. Don’t take life too seriously!

Life, lessons

Easy peasy lemon squeezy!

Seriously, we need to stop doing this! Life is precious and probably a one time thing but don’t be too obsessed with it. What I mean is, life doesn’t have to be perfect and (fortunately) it never will be. So, sometimes it’s a good idea to let life be instead of trying hard to fix things.

Its been said too many times, life is short! We all know deep inside that life won’t go on forever, but we still choose to live in denial. May be its because of fear of death or perhaps its the fear of life itself. Whatever the reason is, what we need to do is try to relax and enjoy life while it lasts.

3. Count your blessings!

Life lessons

Thank God for the lunch & the cook who cooked the lunch!

No one can deny that life is full of problems. In our never-ending struggle to find solutions of problems (one after the other) we often take some precious things for granted. The reason these things are precious is because we can’t imagine our life without them, and the reason we take them for granted is because we become unappreciative of what we already have.

These precious things are the blessings of God, which usually are the things we need the most in life. It can be moments with family, unconditional love of a child, complete devotion of a furry friend, your health and wellness, etc.

These blessings that we take for granted are the things that make life worth living. So, count your blessings and find words of gratitude in your heart for those blessings.

4. Live in the present!

9 important lessons

Find the Zen in you, human!

Most of us are either unaware or neglect the importance of the present moment. We are caught up with thoughts of future or past or sometimes even both. In the book The Power of Now, Echkart Tolle urges his readers to realize the fact that present is all one has and as such one must make ‘now’ primary focus of life.

I think he makes a valid point! We can not waste what we have: the present; for what we no longer have: the past or for what doesn’t yet belong to us: the future.

Learn to live in only the present and embrace the moments that are fleeting but still worthwhile. You will be much more happy once you let go of the past and future, and be with only the present to work on.

5. Be self sufficient!

9 important life lessons

Take (self) care!

We can not live alone in this world, because for most part we are inter dependent on each other. If the farmer won’t grow crops, factory workers won’t process produce and shops won’t sell food supplies; where on earth will I get my lunch or any meal for that matter?

But, there are few other things we have got to take care of all by ourselves like taking care of ourselves! We can not rely entirely on others anymore, everyone’s got their own load to carry. No one can add anything extra to the already heavy burden.

It is the time when we must learn to be self sufficient to help ourselves survive in life.

6. Don’t think about other’s opinion of you!

Life, lessons

Let me slide past that sh*#!

Other’s opinion of you is not worth your time to think about. Moreover, you are not who and what they think.

This doesn’t mean don’t ever think or listen to anyone but yourself. You must think about others and always listen to what your loved ones say. But in the end only you can and should decide what’s best for you to do or to be.

Also, protect yourself with the shield of self believe, from selfish or mean thoughts, words and deeds. These three negative influences come from people who don’t have a problem with you but actually have problems with their mental state.

7. Learn to say no!

9 Life lessons, list article

No! Nope! Na! Nada!

When I was younger, I had difficulty saying no to people. As you can easily predict a lot of people would take advantage of that like use all my stuff and sometimes ruin them without offering any apology.

But I have learned that help (or your stuff) should be given only to those people who genuinely need it and can appreciate the value of it.

These days I am as much a ‘Yes Man’ as a ‘No Man’. And we really do need both, because everything in this universe is limited. We have got to put each resource to its best use.

It’s better to say no than lose any of that limited resource at your disposal, including your time!

8. If you want others to accept you, accept yourself first!

9 important, life, lessons

Cheer for team YOU!

Have you ever wondered why we choose only our best pictures to share on our social media? We do so only for one reason, to get validation. Human brains are wired to look for validation from others. Come to think of it, does it even make sense- to look for validation outside and in places we have no control whatsoever?

Why can’t we accept and validate ourselves for who we truly are and let go of our desire to get validation from others.

Once you begin to see yourself in true light and come to not only accept but love the person that you are, you would no longer worry about other’s opinions. Some might like you while some will only find your flaws, but you will have no problem either way!

9. Listen to your heart!

Life lessons

Can you hear your heartbeat?

When it comes to making important decisions in life, we use and over use our brains. Most of us solely depend on our brain power and seldom (try to) listen to what our heart has to say in the matter.

I do not intend to say that one should not think at all and only feel in order to make sound decisions. For best results I would suggest to use both brain and heart impartially.

Your heart will always tell you what you need to hear rather than what you might want to. It will tell you the plain and simple truth. But to listen to the truth you really have to learn to listen without words first.

So, take a moment to see and to hear what is there in your heart!

Conclusion –

In life everything that happens whether good or bad, will teach you a lesson. One who has the desire to learn can find wisdom in anything, in a tree or a river or even in a grain of sand. Some people also believe that the best place to look for a lesson in life is within yourself.

Look within yourself, for those lessons are waiting for you to discover them. Once they are discovered, don’t forget to put them to use by practicing that knowledge everytime you can.

  9. Very true, irrespective of what we are and who we are, we should always be self-sufficient. Also the best things in life happen to us when we are busy planning other things, so we should heartily honour all the good things that come our way. These surely are 9 great values of life.

I say having this time out is magical to collect your thoughts and process the simple things like a growing garden of weeds and flowers and enabled me to stare at my wall in the bathroom and say I’m going to sand that back and give it a lick of paint’. Doing something for you!

  20. Great lessons and article! Really gave me stuff to think about 🙂

The thing I learned is that it is good to listen to everyone and try to understand them, even when you disagree with them. In this life there are no definite answers to anything so everyone’s point of view can teach you something. And besides, you can always after the conversation still disagree, but consider it time spent in an interesting fashion.

I use multiple tools & apps for creating the image content of my blog. It’s a long process & for different images I use different apps, actually multiple apps.
I would highly recommend canva for creating good images with graphics. It’s a very useful tool & you can get the most out of it for free. You could pay for better graphics, but I don’t think you need to. You could also try pic monkey and adobe spark.
I use pinterest for sharing purposes only.
